The world's elite gather in the Val Gardena Ski Resort, and it is no surprise. Here you will find world-famous pistes like the Saslong and Seceda, which are skiable from December to April. The Val Gardena also features a connection to the world's largest ski network, Dolomiti Superski, and to the nearby Alpe di Siusi Skiing Area, the largest high-altitude pasture in Europe.
From Ortisei, you can reach the family-friendly ski area of the Alpe di Siusi, which has 60 kilometres of perfectly groomed pistes with 100% snowmaking coverage. Numerous trails also wind around the ski area for those who prefer cross-country skiing.
To the south of Selva Gardena, the Ciampinoi area rises, with descents towards Selva Gardena, Santa Cristina and Plan de Gralba. The pistes on Ciampinoi have been famous since the 1930s and hosted the Alpine World Ski Championships in 1970. The Seceda - Col Raiser - Raschötz area provides excellent skiing high above the valley, from 1,200 to 2,500 metres above sea level.
Around Ortisei, there are 10.5 kilometres of pistes, and around Santa Cristina, about 6 km. From the summit of Seceda, a panoramic view extends from the Ortles to the Grossglockner, the King of the Eastern Alps. All these areas together create the Val Gardena-Alpe di Siusi ski experience. The ski huts should also be mentioned, as they can turn a day on the slopes into a culinary highlight.
