The international ski mountaineering race in the Dolomites promises thrilling competition
The Sellaronda is a well-known tour around the Sella Massif. In winter, it can be completed on skis - thanks to the ski lifts, the circuit can be done in a single day without ever having to take your skis off. In summer, the route belongs to cyclists.
The famous "SellaRonda Skimarathon" ski touring race also leads athletes around the Sella Group. However, the landscape is not the only thing that makes this competition special; it is also the time it takes place. The race is held at night, with athletes equipped only with touring skis, skins and headlamps. Furthermore, participants compete in teams of two.
In total, the ski mountaineers cover a 42-kilometre route with significant elevation gain, though the exact distance depends on snow conditions. The race is only suitable for highly trained professionals and requires intensive preparation.
The route passes through the towns of Selva Gardena, Corvara, Arabba (Belluno) and Canazei (Trentino). The start and finish of the night race rotate annually between these locations. For over three decades, the competition has thrilled participants and spectators alike.
