Every village in the Val Gardena valley has its own ice rink - with either artificial or natural ice - or an indoor arena
In the past, ice skating was only possible on natural ice, but over the decades, artificial rinks have been added. These make the sport possible even on days without freezing temperatures.
Ice skating has a long tradition in the Val Gardena. This is demonstrated by the history of the local HC Gherdëina hockey club, which was founded back in the 1920s, and the international success of the figure skater Carolina Kostner, who comes from Ortisei.
The Pranives ice stadium is located in Selva Gardena. It is open for public skating on certain days from the beginning of July to the beginning of September and from mid-December to the beginning of April. The facility also includes a gym, a bar, a pizzeria and an outdoor football pitch. The stadium is the home of HC Gherdëina. Here, you can watch the club's home games live on some evenings. In Ortisei and Santa Cristina, on the other hand, there are outdoor ice rinks.
The natural ice rink at the Iman Center in Santa Cristina is prepared from Christmas to February and is open for public skating every afternoon. Skates can be hired on site. The Setil ice rink in Ortisei has the same opening hours, and skates can also be hired there. Have fun on the ice!
