A funicular connects the slopes of Seceda-Col Raiser with those of Ciampinoi in the Val Gardena Skiing Area
The Gardena Ronda Express is an underground funicular in Santa Cristina that connects the Seceda-Col Raiser and Ciampinoi skiing areas. After construction began in 2003, the railway was officially opened on Christmas Eve 2004. On its 1,244-metre-long route through the tunnel, it covers an altitude difference of 142 metres at a speed of up to 36 km ph.
Up to 2,000 people can be transported per hour in each direction. This means the railway not only eases traffic on the valley roads but is also a key component of the Dolomiti Superski lift network.
In 2010, the Rasciesa in Ortisei became the second funicular to open in the Val Gardena. Today, the name "Val Gardena Ronda" also refers to a popular ski circuit that connects the slopes of Ciampinoi, Col Raiser, Seceda, Alpe di Siusi, and Monte Pana in a single day. All the necessary lifts are included in the Val Gardena-Alpe di Siusi ski pass.
