Mountain huts and pastures

What could be more beautiful than a hike in the mountains of the Val Gardena valley? And what could be more delicious than a mountain snack in the sun afterwards?

After a pleasant hike many mountain huts invite to rest and refuel with new energy such as the famous Baita Gamsblut, Rifugio Resciesa, Rifugio Sasso Piatto or Rifugio Sandro Pertini. Between the Tirler Alm and the Col Raiser alpine pastures and Mt. Stevia you can enjoy the sunbeams on a sun terrace or make yourself comfortable in one of the deckchairs on the mountain meadows.

In the heart of the Puez-Geisler Nature Park, part of the World Heritage site of the Dolomites, culinary delicacies such as mountain cheese and home-made buckwheat cake are offered. Most sought-after after a hike is the traditional “Speckbrettl” with South Tyrolean ham, mountain cheese and fresh bread or the local flat bread called Schüttelbrot - all of this comes garnished with herbs, pickles and finely chopped vegetables.

Many huts such as the Malga Odles, Rifugio Molignon or Baita Schgaguler Schwaige also offer warm dishes, traditional delicacies of Tyrol such as dumplings and Schlutzkrapfen (semi-circular stuffed pasta, similar to ravioli). Some of the mountain huts even offer overnight stays and make it possible to combine the three highlights: a hike in the amazing alpine world of the Dolomites, the South Tyrolean cuisine and a sunrise in the mountains of the Val Gardena valley.
