Heide Nativity Scene Museum

Masterpieces of nativity art exhibited and sold in Pontives near Ortisei in a family-run business

Since 1970, the Heide company, a family-run business in Pontives - at the entrance to the Val Gardena a few kilometres before Ortisei - has been producing wood carvings, particularly wooden nativity scenes. Both design and production take place exclusively in the Val Gardena.

To make the variety of nativity scenes accessible to a wider audience, the Heide Nativity Scene Museum was opened at the company's headquarters just over a decade ago. The 500 sqm exhibition space displays 40 masterpieces by the most significant nativity scene creators from Austria and Italy. The 150 sqm "Original Heide Shop" is attached.

The range in the modern showroom includes series-produced items in various sizes and with different attire. Three collections are available to choose from: Immanuel (oriental), Rustika (local Alpine style), and Hannah (classically dressed).

Immanuel is considered the best-known and most sought-after collection from Original Heide: The figures are dressed in real fabric. Please note that the museum is not yet barrier-free.
