The South Tyrolean sporting world looks forward to another major event: the UCI Marathon World Championships
The HERO Südtirol Dolomites takes place in the Val Gardena every year. The cycling marathon is known as the toughest and most spectacular in the world. It not only takes participants to the most beautiful spots in the Val Gardena valley but also presents them with a significant challenge.
The HERO courses will be adapted for the 2030 MTB Marathon World Championships: The UCI, the world governing body for cycling, has awarded the Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships in 2030 to the valley. The men's race will cover an 86-kilometre course with 4,500 metres of elevation gain, while the women's will be a 60-kilometre course with 3,200 metres of elevation gain.
The event will be held from June 13 to 16, 2030. This marks the return of the UCI Marathon World Championships to Val Gardena after 15 years. The event joins a series of major sporting occasions in the region, including the 2026 Winter Olympics, with the biathlon competitions in Anterselva, and the 2031 Alpine Ski World Championships Val Gardena-South Tyrol.
In the same year, another highlight will follow in the neighbouring province of Trentino: the third edition of the UCI Cycling World Championships, the so-called "Super Worlds".
