- At südtirolmobil sales points
- In tourist offices
- At ticket machines in stations
- At the ticket office in Trento station
- At the VVT customer centre at Innsbruck main station (can be validated in Innsbruck, valid from Brenner onwards)
- Before first use: Write your name and the validity period on the back of the card.
- Validation: The Mobilcard must be validated at the beginning of each journey by holding it up to the blue readers on the buses or at the train stations (before boarding!).
Specific Rules
- Children: Under 6 years travel free. The Junior fare applies between 6 and 13 years old.
- Dogs: Usually require an additional ticket (daily or single journey), unless they are guide dogs or small animals held in arms/carrier. A muzzle is mandatory (except for small dogs and guide dogs).
- Bicycles: Where permitted, bicycle transport is not included in the Mobilcard and requires a separate ticket. Transport is only possible based on available space (especially on regional trains, approx. 16-20 spaces) and is not guaranteed, even with a valid ticket; staff may deny access if overcrowded.
Mobilcard, Guest Pass or Gardena Card?
It's important not to confuse the different cards available:
- Mobilcard: The one described here. It is paid, available to anyone, and valid for public transport throughout South Tyrol for 1, 3, or 7 days.
- Val Gardena Guest Pass: This is the free guest card offered by many partner accommodations in Val Gardena to their guests. It covers the use of the same transport means as the Mobilcard for the entire duration of the stay, and is the ideal solution if staying in the valley at a participating establishment. Ask your host for information!
- Gardena Card: This is a completely different paid card, specific for the free use of a network of lift facilities in Val Gardena, valid for 3 or 6 days.
In summary: The Mobilcard is an excellent and convenient option if you want to freely explore South Tyrol by public transport for several days and are not entitled to a free Guest Pass through your accommodation provider.
