Nordic-Walking

Nordic Walking

Step by step throughout the landscape

Nordic Walking, a rather new and oh-so popular type of outdoor sports, is actually a mixture of jogging and walking.

Nordic Walking might for instance be described as a kind of walking with specifically designed walking poles. Using poles you take strain off of knees and ankles and give yourself more balance. Choosing the ideal walking poles may thus be essential. You can choose from carbon fibre, aluminium or other materials. In calculating the correct pole length, the simple formula of using your height multiplied by 0.70 is recommended. And your elbow should be at a 90° angle when held by the grip with the tip on the ground. Special shoes are suggested in case you are walking on steep or uneven terrain. Otherwise a pair of good running shoes or light trekking shoes should do it.

Nordic Walking asks for an increased walking rhythm and also the efficiency of the training due to a more intense effort of the arms and trunk muscles can be increased. The result is a total body workout that burns up some 20% more calories than during plain walking or running. When walking on even terrain with an average speed you consume e.g. 400 calories per hour. Moreover, Nordic Walking has beneficial effects on your muscles, heart and your overall circulation and is ideal for young and old.

There are, obviously, several clubs and associations in Val Gardena - such as the ski schools - offering Nordic Walking classes and trips.

Have a nice Nordic Walking experience and don't forget watching the beautiful scenery surrounding you!
