Carolina Kostner is figure skating World Champion 2012 and lives in Ortisei in the Gardena valley

Carolina Kostner was born on February 8, 1987, in Bolzano and lives in Ortisei in the Val Gardena. Carolina has got two brothers, Martin and Simon. Already her mother Patrizia was a famous figureskater, and later on young talents' coach at the "Ice Club Gardena". Her father Erwin, however, is a former hockey player and captain of the national team. Today he works as a hockey coach.

Somehow life of Carolina Kostner was predetermined. With four years the five-time European champion (2007, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2013) makes her first trials in ice skating! Carolina's career starts in 2003, when she finishes 4th at her first European Championships.

Only two years later, in 2005, she finishes 3rd at the European Championships in Moscow. Once again two years later, 2007, she becomes European Champion in Warsaw, Poland. In 2008, she succeeds in defending her title in Zagreb, Croatia. At the World Championships in Goteborg, Sweden, she finishes 2nd. The tendency of her successes was constantly rising at that time. A great honour in Carolina's career have so far been the Olympic Winter Games in Torino in 2006, where she waved the flag for Italy.

In 2012 the highlight of her career, when she becomes figure skating World Champion in Nizza, France, followed by the bronze medal at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi (Russia) 2014. After that, Carolina Kostner announces she wants to take a sabbatical year. After a ban from figure skating in 2015-2016 she makes 6th place at the World Championships in Helsinki 2017 and 5th place at the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang 2018.
