The charming vocalist of traditional popular music comes from the Val Gardena and enchants with songs such as “Madre di Dio”.
Demetz Belsy Khan, born in India on December 23, 1984, was adopted at the age of 12 months by Erika and Raimund Demetz from Selva Gardena. With seven years only, she participates in the international children’s festival “Zecchino d’Oro” and joins the choir “Cor di Mutons de Sëlva”. At the age of eight, Belsy presents her first solo album in Selva Gardena, “Alles was von Herzen kommt” (Everything that comes from the heart). For the first time in front of a large attendance she sings at the open air of the “Kastelruther Spatzen”, a very famous local band, in 2002.
In the South Tyrolean Gran Prix preliminaries, Belsy achieves the fantastic 1st place in 2003, in the final she comes 3rd. A series of live and tv appearances followes. With the popular song “Madre di Dio”, Belsy comes 2nd in the local Gran Prix preliminaries of 2004, and also in the final. Together with Rudy Giovannini she wins this important folk music competition in 2006 (for South Tyrol), while in 2010 - its last edition - she wins for Germany together with Florian Fesl, making her the most successful participant of all times.
Belsy’s songs can be intended as bridging the gap between folk music and pop songs and are an interplay of romantic and soft lays and catchy melodies. In 2014 Belsy releases her last album, a best-of “Das Beste - Ihre schönsten Lieder” (with Florian Fesl) and says goodbye to folk music. Nowadays Belsy works in the family-owned hotel in the Gardena valley.
