Boasting an altitude of 2,536 metres, the Sciliar Massif may not be the highest mountain of the region; but every child in South Tyrol knows about this legendary mountain in between Siusi, Tires and Fiè allo Sciliar. Johann Santner was the first conquering the Sciliar Massif in 1980 and it was this man who gave the popular Santner Summit its name. The near-by Latemar and Catinaccio mountains are also among the most popular mountain massifs of South Tyrol.
The Sciliar Massif is part of the Sciliar Nature Park and locates in the close surroundings of Val Gardena. Numerous hiking trails and climbing routes lead across the area, all of them within easy reach of beautiful Val Gardena. Also mountain bikers, however, can look forward to numerous opportunities. The local tourism bords will be more than willing to provide plenty of information.
