Dolomites added to the UNESCO’s World Heritage List

On Friday, June 26, 2009 the Dolomites have officially been declared UNESCO World Heritage site.

At the 33th conference in Sevilla in Spain, the UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee has officially added the Dolomite mountains to the list of the world heritage sites. This mountain chain includes an area of 135,000 hectares and extends on the territory of the provinces South Tyrol, Trentino, Belluno, Udine and Pordenone. The Dolomites comprise 18 mountains that are higher than 3,000 metres and is characterised by rugged peaks and bizar rock formations. The UN considers the Dolomites to be one of the most beautiful mountain areas worldwide and we can only agree on that and we are happy about this official recognition. Congratulations, Dolomites!
