Carolina Kostner

The double European Champion in figure skating Carolina Kostner lives in Ortisei in Val Gardena.

Carolina Kostner was born on February 8, 1987 in Bolzano and lives with her family in Ortisei in Valgardena. Carolina has got two brothers, Martin and Simon. Already her mother Patrizia was a famous figureskater and still today coaches young talents of the “Ice Club Gardena”. Her father Erwin, however, is a former hockey player and captain of the national team. Today he works as a hockey coach. Somehow life of Carolina Kostner was predetermined. With four years only the double European champion made her first trials in ice skating.

Carolina’s career started in 2003, when she finished fourth in her first European Championships. Only two years later, in March 2005, she finished third in the European championships in Moscow. Once again two years later, on January 27, 2007, she becomes European Champion at the European Championships in Warsaw. In 2008 she succeeded in defending her title in Zagreb and in the World Championships in Goteborg, Sweden she finished second.
One of the highlights in Carolina’s career have so far been the Olympic Winter Games at Torino in 2006, when she waved the flag for Italy. In the games, however, she finished ninth. Also in the future Carolina Kostner will be one of the top figure skating athletes worldwide and we wish you, Carolina, good luck for your oncoming competitions!
By the way: the famous skier Isolde Kostner from Valgardena is Carolina’s cousin and also her godmother. :-)
